Cylinder Bench

A freestanding sculpture that consists of 16 concrete cylinders with a blue crystal growth covering the internal surfaces. The grey, stony colour of the cylinders echo the visual qualities of core samples of stone used by geologists and the mining industry to gather information about mineral deposits, how the planet once was and what we can expect in the future. The cylinders in this work—which have the crystal growth on their internal surfaces—are like core samples turned inside out, where the mineral information is contained on the inside.
